TopShots Marisquiño 2026: Álvaro Varas
There are images that start preparing a year in advance. Álvaro Varas finished Marisquiño 2025 with a small unfinished task: to really take advantage of the spectacular Samil sunsets for a photo session. This year he decided they would not slip away again.
From the very first day he organized himself with Sergio Layos and Saúl to look for those photographs he had in mind. Riders, park, and the last light of the day with the Atlantic in the background. "Simply, the sunsets in Samil are magical", Álvaro sums up about sessions in which he was finally able to get the result he was looking for.
But the sunset also ended up appearing where he least expected it. In 2025 Álvaro had already dared to photograph FMX, despite it not being his specialty, and this year he wanted to repeat. He managed to coordinate with Alba - the Media manager - to go in during one of the exhibitions and on Friday the bikes and the last light of the day coincided. The result is another of his favorite series from #OM26. Photographing FMX from so close, with the riders passing at full speed and the sunset light behind, also added an extra point of adrenaline to the work: "It was simply incredible to be able to do this with the bikes passing so close".
Two very different sunsets that sum up Álvaro Varas' Topshots at Marisquiño 2026: the planned and prepared session with Sergio Layos and Saúl, and the unpredictability of FMX. And, one more year, he also keeps what happens when the camera goes down: the show and the good vibes that are lived behind the whole festival.
