Four years after his last visit, Lea Terry returned to Marisquiño to reconnect with his people and photograph skateboarding in Samil again. "Marisquiño has a very particular vibe: it starts off hot and beachy and ends with a relaxed late-afternoon feel," he explains. A transformation that also happens behind the camera, with a course and a light that call for different photographs as the hours go by.

One of the moments that marked him most was the Adaptive Skate, where he was able to photograph and share the course with riders like Ítalo Romano and Marcelo Lusardi. But there was also time to get very close to the action during practice sessions. With an 8 mm fisheye, Lea tried to get the camera practically right up to the skaters in areas like the handrail and the marble stone to exaggerate the proximity and dimension of the tricks.

From the sunset to Pacal's celebration

Among his favorite images is Danny León's Piranha Ñam Session, which turned the miniramp into a great skate session at sunset. There he got one of the photographs he had in mind: Jason Lijnzaat and Sota Tsuji sharing a doubles, with the crowd around them and the Samil sunset completing the scene. "Seeing what you have in mind come to life in an image is one of the things I like most about photography: imagining it, waiting for the moment and making it real".

But not all of his favorite photos contain a big trick. Another came right after Pacal's victory, when friends and riders threw themselves into celebrating with him. Lea opened up the frame and captured the young winner completely surrounded by faces, arms and smiles. "It's one of the most remarkable photos, despite the fact that it's not a skate trick but a moment. An image to keep in a jar and always have there in sight".

And every afternoon there was one last opportunity. With the sun setting over the Cíes Islands, Lea would head out to look for backlight and silhouettes that, for him, give Marisquiño photos a "signature fingerprint".

Four years later, the return met expectations: Adaptive Skate, fisheye inches from the tricks, celebration, doubles and sunsets make up his #OMTopshots of 2026. And this time he doesn't want to let another four years go by: "Next year I'll be back for sure".
